Ingredients Spotlight 3 - Free of Parabens, Sulfates or Artificial Colors

te+te Soap Foam

Te Plus Te is proud to say that none of our products are formulated with Sulfates, SLS, SLES, parabens, or artificial colors. But why is this so important to us to provide soaps and other products that are free of these specific bad guys of the beauty industry? These are all ingredients that are often found in other apothecary and body care products to serve various purposes and are notoriously unregulated in the United States.

Sulfates are used as a foaming and lathering agent that makes a detergent for soap to effectively clean dirt and buildup. They can be so intensely effective at cleansing that they can create irritation and strip the hair or skin from natural oils.

The products that we use not only enter our bodies and our bloodstreams through our skin but they also go down our drains and can affect the environment. Parabens, which serve as a chemical preservative for products, have been found in marine animals as well. Though they were banned in the European Union in 2012, they are still widely used in American products. While small amounts of Parabens can be safe, it is their accumulation that we can absorb over time, through many different sources, that can disrupt hormone function.

One of the other ingredients commonly found in soaps that we steer clear of is artificial colors and dyes. Many of these colorants are allergens, irritants, and some even carcinogens. While we choose not to add color to te+te products, there are also natural alternatives like clays, turmeric, and blueberries that could be used to create bright, attractive, and safe body products!

All of this ingredient jargon can be confusing and complicated. Our recommendation would just be to stick with the simple! It's usually your healthiest and safest bet to go with products with few ingredients, and ones that you can pronounce.
